In Term 2, we will not dwell too much on the concept of multiplication as groups of items and the concept of division as sharing or dividing a set of items equally so that each group has the same number of items. We will be doing more practices on Multiplication Tables of 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10. That said, we have to ensure that the children are familiar with the concepts of multiplication and division.
Here's a glimpse into their Primary One lesson on Multiplication. To show the concept of groups and items, equal number of pupils stand in each hula-hoop while some pupils write number sentences/ statements regarding the activity. Magnetic counters (as shown in the first photograph) were used to illustrate the class activity.
Group/ Individual tasks include using rubber bands and beans/ marbles to show the groups and items concept. You can use household items such as rubber bands, plastic bowls, cups, ice-cream sticks, straws, wooden chopsticks, buttons that are easily available for the same activity.
