Addition with Regrouping in Ones

The children have started addition with regrouping. We are working on regrouping the ones first. The above slide is the one I used to illustrate the meaning of regrouping. The number sentence I used is
247 + 104 = ?

Re-write this number sentence as the standard working. Always relate the concept back to the pictorial (see slide show) so that pupils understand the mechanism behind doing the working. Otherwise, how would we explain the derivation of the remaining ones and the indication of the 1 ten (the tiny digit 1 that we write on top)? The same concept can be used to explain regrouping in tens too.
